Can PDFs print in exactly the same page position as the Illustrator artwork?
I'm creating drawings in Illustrator 8, running OS9 on my G4. When I save the drawings in PDF format in Illustrator 8, I need them to print in exactly the same position on the page as they did in Illustrator 8. Is this possible? Does anyone have some pointers for me?
Thanks,
Spider-Man

Maybe place a white box behind your art that represents the page?

Make sure "print to fit" is unchecked

If you need to keep transparency you could use a stroked box with no fill. And (obviously) you need to align your print page area to this box.

Re: Can PDFs print in exactly the same page position as the Illustrator artwork?
Spider-man, need more details on what’s actually happening. Can you be experiencing one of these.
Illustrator’s PDF format creates its page size to the same dimensions as your paste board. If your paste board is larger than your print page (i.e. paste board 500mm x 320mm, print page size is A3 - 420mm x 297mm. You will get 2 different results, you printout is at A3 size and your PDF file is larger than A3 which shifts when printing to an A3 printer. Check that your paste board matches your print page size.
The other I know of is if you are creating a PDF file from Illustrator 8 in OS9 via a Postscript printer through Distiller, I use to get my page size the same as my paste board, but my page content was cropped where my printer non print area (the margin within the print page size guide) ended. This was because the postscript printer was not able to handle data in this area. This changed when “Create Adobe PDF” came about.
Then again it not be any of the above.
