Can save page file names

Default Can save page file names

Hi all: Problem is in web mode. I can designate the name of
each page file (Page2.htm, for example) using web options
and then save the file and the page file names are still
show. But after closing and then opening the document all
of these file names are lost. Publisher then generates its
    own page numbers.

This makes it impossible to get decent page rankings in
search engines because the page file names change every
    time I publish the site.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, this is version 2003 and yes, the subfolder exists-It
creates a "Publish" subdirectory. Inside the Publish
subdirectory there is Index.htm and another subdirectory
called Index_Files. This problem exists on both my
computers, so I don't think it has much to do with the
hardware. Both are runnning Win Xp Prof OS. Both have
Office 2000 for Word, Excel, etc.

Default Re: Can save page file names

    v. 2003 does not create a "publish" folder. v. 2000 did that. I'd guess you
had v.2000 and just still have that publish folder. v.2003 only creates site
files (and site subfolder if on), and saves these to the location you browse
to when you save it during the publish to web function. v.2003 names the
first page of the web publication "index.htm" unless you change that at the
time of the save/publish. If the subfolder is on it then names the subfolder
based off of that saved name, so if it was the default of index.htm the
subfolder is index_files, likewise if you saved it as weebles.htm you'd get
weebles_files. On that first page you do not use the file name option in web
options, you can put something in there but it will be over-ridden with the
name that you save/publish as. That file name option only applies to the 2nd
page on. If you use the subfolder the files are named accordingly, if you
don't use the subfolder the files are named with the designated name
    prefixed by the save/publish name - i.e. index_aboutus.htm.
These file names are independent of "page titles" are should not be confused
with each other. Page titles and file names are retained in the pub file
    when saved.

That is the behavior of v.2003. If you are experiencing different behaviour,
and that can be duplicated on different machines, it is likely that the pub
file is corrupted. If which case you are welcome to send the file to me for
    review.

    Thanks David,

I already understood most of the things you explained. I
did some experimentation and think I figured out the
problem--I'd converted the pub file to an htm file and was
working with that. I converted it back to a pub file
(print publication) and then set to a web publication.
Now, page file names seem to persist after closing the
    document.

I guess I misunderstood the help instructions on this-and
didn't realize that I could keep it as a pub file, yet
designate it as a web publication.
