Default Can someone please clarify something VERY simple for me?

Hi. I have a few questions conercning both cfm and connectting databases.

the SERVER has the have cfm installed, right? So that means I can just do the
cfm in dreamweaver and upload it to a server, and the server has to has the cfm
installed and payed the $1200, not me (I would pay the server monthly fees)

What about putting a database on a server? Can I put a database on a remote
server instead of setting up my own server?

Also, I'm familiar with Php but a noobie with cfml. Is cfml also only for web
    applications?

    Thank you very much

Yep, shared hosting is a great option and is really inexpensive. Two
    great places to start:

Most hosting companies let you use Access, or for a bit extra you can
use SQL Server or MySQL (in the case of CrystalTech).

If you mean web applications as opposed to desktop applications, yes,
but that would apply to PHP as well. CFMX 7 Enterprise has added event
gateway technology, however, which allows CF to talk to pretty much
anything that Java can talk to, meaning you aren't limited to HTTP
protocols anymore. This opens up the door to very simply create CF
applications that interact with cell phones, instant messenging
    applications, etc.

    Hope that helps,

I agree with Woodward, Crystaltech is one place to try your hands on. I mean i
have used them ever since i am doing Cold Fusion. They do provide you with the
Database u need, if u r willing to shell out some extra money.

One of the things I do like about CrystalTech is that you can get SQL
Server and MySQL on the same account if you need it. That can come in
handy. For service, etc. my preference is HostMySite.
