It's time for Alsoft's DiskWarrior but you'll probably need Version 2.
The version 3 CD boots into OS X and your machine may not support that
    OS.

They include DW 2.1 on the DW 3 CD. Unfortunately there have been
some reports of problems with DW 3 and large firewire drives on OS X

    drives when DW 3 can't.

It's true that the DW 3.0 CD includes version 2.1, but It won't boot if
the machine doesn't support OS X. So, unless the OP has another drive
from which he can boot, he would need the older CD.

As to the problems with 3.0, my drives are only 60 GB and 75 GB and
don't really qualify as large, but I have had no problems with DE 3.0.
    As always, YMMV.
