Can't dialup, possible DNS problem - Debian

Hello, I've tried configuring my dialup accounts using pppconfig, however when I try to fetch a web page Mozilla sits there forever 'resolving host foo.bar.com...' When I try to use ping, it also just sits there trying to resolve the host. The same happens when I try to configure wvdial. Both don't seem to let me access the Internet. I've tried configuring with static as well as dymanic DNS. No luck. Any ideas? --James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requestlists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Default Can't dialup, possible DNS problem

Hello,

I've tried configuring my dialup accounts using pppconfig, however
when I try to fetch a web page Mozilla sits there forever 'resolving
host foo.bar.com...' When I try to use ping, it also just sits there
trying to resolve the host.

The same happens when I try to configure wvdial. Both don't seem to
let me access the Internet.

I've tried configuring with static as well as dymanic DNS. No luck.
Any ideas?

--James

Default Re: Can't dialup, possible DNS problem

Basic troubleshooting steps:

1. Use traceroute or tcptracroute to a known IP address. Make sure
your internet connection is really alive. If not, you have other
problems...

2. Make sure your nameservers are where you think they are. Try
doing:

host www.debian.org <nameserver-ip>

3. After dialing up, check your /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure it
has the right IP address (the one that got successful results in step #2)
