Can’t write to Hidden Layer

Has Adobe purposely changed this layer/function on Ai10?
In the past it was possible to select graphics and drag to a hidden layer. This was a very quick way to navigate and clean up complicated dielines with extranious tidbits placed everywhere. Is there a way to smulate or make this available again?

Sorry, I've never tried that. I still run AI10 can you give me a simple test to try? I'm not sure what you mean by "hidden layer". I don't work with layers that much.

You mean dragging layers within the layer pallette? It's not possible when the layer is off or locked.

Have you tried selecting the layer in the pallete, going to the object on the artboard, cotrol+clicking and 'Sending to current layer'? That way, when the layer is switched off, it will disappear when moved.

That sort of works...thanks! It was less bass-akwards in previous versions. If you had the objects selected, all you had to do was drag “the little square on the right“ in the the layers pallette, and move it to the appropriate layer...if that layer was hidden..the selection also became hidden.
