Folks,

Does there exist a way to create CSS that makes a single block of text
display in two columns?

No. The only way to do it is with JavaScript. The International Herald
Tribune site (www.iht.com) uses JavaScript to create three columns. It's
very nifty, but the script is long and complicated - and it delivers a blank
page if JavaScript is disabled.
