Cannot access work group
I have just updated a computer to windows xp he from
windows 2000.
Now I cant access the other computer on home network
using windows 2000.
ics is enabled so lan adapter has ip 192.168.0.1, i have
manually configured the 2000 computer to ip address
192.168.0.102. they are both in the same workgroup, with
individual names and same subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway on 2000 machine is set to 192.68.0.1
the problem is when ever i try and browse network, all i
get is cannot access workgroup from both machines...nor
can i ping them
I have plugged a laptop in from work (which is why used
workgroup as name) and that recognised the 2000 machine
no problem.
so network is working, have changed cables to ones ive
tested ok so they are working
am now buggered as to a solution
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Cannot access work group
I am having a similar problem. I setup a wireless home
network with my desktop PC running WIN XP Home which is
connected to the router and I connect my work laptop
running WIN2K via wireless. Everything works great accept
that I cannot reach my desktop's shared folders from my
laptop. I later learned that since I log into my laptop as
DOMAIN\USERNAME, that if I am not connected (VPN) to my
work the domain is not authenticated and WINXP won't let
me connect to it. When I VPN into work, I can access my
WINXP machine. I am trying to figure out how to access my
WINXP machine without logging into work first.

Windows XP Network Troubleshooting
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot
Please pay particular attention to these sections:
1. Firewalls: Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection
Firewall on local area network connections -- it's for use only on a
direct modem connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all
other firewalls while troubleshooting.
2. Protocols: Use only one for File and Printer Sharing. If the
network needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing
from all but one of them.
3. NetBIOS over TCP/IP: Make sure that it's enabled on all computers.
