cannot compile glibc2.3 - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

greetings, When I try to compile glibc2.3, I do this : ../configure --enable-threads=posix and get this : [snip bunch of checking] checking installed Linux kernel header files... (cached) 2.0.10 or later *** On GNU/Linux systems it is normal to compile GNU libc with the *** `linuxthreads' add-on. Without that, the library will be *** incompatible with normal GNU/Linux systems. *** If you really mean to not use this add-on, run configure again *** using the extra parameter `--disable-sanity-checks'. Of course I want threads, so I tried --enable-sanity-checks :) read INSTALL but couldn't make much out of it :( Any ideas ...

    Default cannot compile glibc2.3

    greetings,

When I try to compile glibc2.3, I do this :

    ../configure --enable-threads=posix

    and get this :
    [snip bunch of checking]
checking installed Linux kernel header files... (cached) 2.0.10 or later
*** On GNU/Linux systems it is normal to compile GNU libc with the
*** `linuxthreads' add-on. Without that, the library will be
*** incompatible with normal GNU/Linux systems.
*** If you really mean to not use this add-on, run configure again
*** using the extra parameter `--disable-sanity-checks'.

Of course I want threads, so I tried --enable-sanity-checks :)
read INSTALL but couldn't make much out of it :(

    Any ideas ?

    thx !!

I had forgotten to download glibc threads :)

I copied the the glibcthreads unpacked in the glibc dir and :
    ../configure
    ->
configure: error: you must configure in a separate build directory

    I won't give up :) !

I copied things like this :

    /usr/src/linuxthreads
    /usr/src/glibc-2.3.2
    then cd /usr/src/
    then
    glibc-2.3.2/configure --enable-add-ons=./linuxthreads
    --disable-sanity-checks

    He doesnt find linuxthreads

    weird ...

    Unpack glibc
cd into glibc directory and unpack glibc-linuxthreads
    mkdir ../glibc-build
    cd ../glibc-build
    .../glibc-x.x.x/configure --prefix/usr

Be sure to change the x.x.x to the correct glibc version and add
any otions you want/need to the configure line.

    [snip]

You need to unpack linuxthreads into the glibc directory.
    cd /usr/src/glibc-2.3.2
    tar xvfz /path/to/linuxthreads.tar.gz
    mkdir ../glibc-compile
    cd ../glibc-compile

    Then you can configure with:
    ../glibc-2.3.2/configure --config-options --enable-add-ons
