Cannot move or delete files

I can't move or delete any files that Illustrator thinks belongs to it, including .eps and .ai files. The message I get is that the file is in use by another program. But I have used control/alt/delete and no programs are running, including Illustrator. Does anyone else have that problem?

I've tried both Illustrator 8 and Illustrator CS (on Windows XP, 512megs of Ram.)

You need to rename one of the .dll files to *.dll.old, you'll lose your preview icons, but you'll be able to move and delete your files.

The search function is down at the moment and I can't remember which .dll file it is. When the search function comes back online search this forum for your question.

The file Tim is referring to is aiicon.dll

Wow, how the heck did you know that? I did it, and sure enough, it worked right away. My preview icons weren't very important anyhow, I can live without them for the most part. I really can't thank you enough for helping me fix this.

I'm having this same problem -- but changing the file extension doesn't seem to work for me. I tried renaming each aiicon.dll file (one for v8 then the one for CS, then both) to aiicon.dll.old and also aiicon.old - but I'm still getting a sharing violation and unable to delete certain ai files.

I'm on W2K...

Am I missing something?
