Cannot open Adobe Illustrator 10! Downloading never ends???

I am unable to open Adobe Illustrator 10.0. Upon initial installation it was occasionally doing this, but has now developed to just not opening at all. When I open (or attempt to open) the program it starts its update download. This process never ends; or more commonly, it "unexpectedly Quits", and ask me if I'd like to report the incident to Adobe.

Customer service recommended that I delete a couple of web files (don't remember the names). AOM or something? That didn't do the trick. They said they never heard of this particular type of problem. I also deleted the program and re installed it- no success. In addition, I managed to update it to 10.0.3- just in case that's what it was attempting to download on its own- no success.

Have you ever had, or heard of, this type of problem? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Trash the Abobe Online file in the Illustrator folder under extentions.

Also make sure you have Carbon lib 1.6 in your system extentions folder.

In regards to your suggestions: I cannot locate the 'Adobe Online File' in the Illustrator folder under Extensions. I have looked through the Adobe Illustrator folders/files as well as searched for it- no results. Should it be in the Adobe Illustrator program folder, because that's where I am looking?

Secondly, when searching for the Carbon lib 1.6 in my System Extensions folder I can find dozens of CarbonLib file types but no 'System Extension folder' or file named CarbonLib 1.6.

If you feel this could be the issue, how do I get it?

Mac OS X.

I recently purchased it along with Adobe Illustrator 10. They worked together for a few months.

Than you don't have to worry about the Carbonlib 1.6 thing I mentioned before.

I'm not sure where the Adobe Online plug in is in OSX. In OS9.2.2 it is in the Adobe Illustrator folder/Plugins/Extensions but not sure in OSX.

Maybe you can do a search on this forum for it. There should be alot of info.

Enrique- I am having the exact same problem. Illustrator 10 worked for a while with OSX, now I either have the endless download or "application unexpectedly quit". I can't imagine it's just us two having the problem- can someone please help?

I found the Adobe Online extension and trashed it, it worked! It is in Adobe Illustrator 10>plug-ins>extensions. I am using Mac OS 10.3.

I believe those Adobe online files have also caused mishap with my GoLive and Photoshop programs. Have you had problems with your other Adobe programs too?

Dee Holmes, do you recommend trashing the Adobe Online files in those programs if the similar symptoms become chronic?

I'm not sure exactly. You could always just move it to a different folder for a while to see if anything happens.

My Photoshop (7) does seem to take longer to open because it tries to download stuff sometimes... but so far I am still able to open it.

My Illustrator 10 now opens nicely whenever I want it, but since I deleted my "Adobe Online" extension, I can't access "Help". Any suggestions? I really rely on the Help menu.
