Cannot open my freehand file anymore
Hello Freehand forum,
I need helps, really need helps.
I cannot open my freehand document anymore. It is very important file to me. I
worked on it the whole two days, but this evening I can't open it anymore.
Freehand give me a message :
"Could open the document, because the file is not a valid Freehand document."
Why is that?
Please help me solve the problem. Thanks

Re: Cannot open my freehand file anymore
FJ19,
Unfortunately, that is one of Freehand MX's dirty little secrets; it
likes to write a corrupt file every now and then, without warning and for
no particular reason. Also, it seems only to happen when the file is very
important, on a deadline, and/or has been worked on for days without
backup.
One would think that there would be a way to code the application to only
save over a good working file if it can verify that the new save is valid,
but for some reason there is a flaw in the file saving routine that allows
this to happen. I have not heard of any specific conditions that precede
this occasional catastrophy. I have had it happen to me only once (and I
have used Freehand daily for years) but in this forum I have read many
other reports of it happening. I don't recall hearing that anyone has ever
recovered a file when it has happened. In my case, the corrupted file was
far too small to contain the artwork that should have been inside it.
Good luck, and I'm sorry I can't give you better news.
