Default Cannot publish changes and creates a 0 byte file on theserver

I have recommended Contribute to a customer to update their site and it's
important they can do this. My version works perfectly but theirs does not.
They can log onto the site and select edit. They have control of the file if I
try and logon so that seems fine. When they try and publish their changes
after a long pause they get a message saying that the connection cannot be
made. What's even more disturbing is that the file they are changing on the
site is replaced with a 0 byte file therefore removing the page they are trying
to modify.
Any thoughts on this please? I am stumped.

Hi Alan,

What is the connection type that is used to connect to the site. Also is the site CPS managed?

The customer is very illeterate on the computer front and 300 miles away
unfortunately. They are using a BT Broadband connection. The PC in question
is attached (wired) to the ADSL router. I'm not sure what CPS is, sorry?

Hi Sudharshan , Any thoughts on this please. It is not a CPS managed site.
The customer is going to try installing C3 on her PC at home a seeing if it
works from there. They hope to do that this evening.
We have retried getting onto the site and the same thing happens, we end up
with a 0byte page.
Many thanks, Alan

Hi Alan,

Can I ask the name of the files trying to be published, and the name of the 0
byte file that IS created? I'm wondering if part of the issue is a server
permissions thing, where the user has permissions to create the file, but not
modify it?

Some info on whether you're using FTP or another connection method within
Contribute, what type of file and what operating system the server is using
might help.

Hi Rhenan,

The file we are trying to modify is the index.html The site is
www.ancasterkarting.co.uk The method we are using is basic FTP. The change
works fine on my machine running Contribute 3 but on the customers machine they
are allowed onto the site, they are allowed to edit the file, but when they
publish a connection error occurs. It seems that the 0byte version of
index.html is created when they edit not when they publish. I am trying to get
them to try it on another machine but they only have one in the office so it
means using their home PC and during their own time which doesn't seem to be
happening. I'm chasing them again today to see if this works.
