Canon A70 Camera - Mac Applications & Software

A couple of daya ago I asked for suggestons on a Digital Camera that was compatible with my iMac. It looks like the Canon A70 may be what my family is looking for. About how many pix can fit on a 128M memory chip? As you can see I know squat about digital cameras :-( -- -- -=[cwa]=- chris at cwaiken dot net...

I got one and love it. I get 147 of the highest resolution picutures on
the 128M chip. I've taken movies and pictures of the 4th of July parade
in town and am really happy with the results. Even the fireworks came
out well. And you can't believe the bass response of the audio. The big
booms come out great. I bought a set of 1800 mAH NiMH batteries and a
chrager for $20 at a local computer discount store. They beat the
    alkaline batteries hands down.

Go to to the Canon web site for the A70 and if you have the bandwidth or
patience download the manual in PDF format. There's a chart on page 215
(but enter 219 in Acrobat reader's navigation box).

Looks like at the highest quality it's 76 and at the lowest it's 1355.
Pretty amazing. You could go on vacation for a month and not take 1355
    pictures.

Yeah, but there is no way I, or most others, would want to take 1355 low
resolution pictures. What’s the point? (Yes, I know, In case of an emergency
when you have maxed out your memory card. Buy more memory.)

I'm not saying you should but you could if you wanted to.

It depends on what your taking a picture of. Outdoor, vacation type
snapshots look fine at 640 by 480 as long as you are not going to print
them out or enlarge them. If I went to a museum or was taking a special
picture I'd up the quality of course and as you say buy or take along
    extra memory cards.

I was just amazed at the capacity considering my old digital camera
(QuickTake 150) could only take 16 640 by 480 shots while my new one
(Olympus Camedia 510Z) can take about 1300 at that same resolution and
    probably better quality too.

    It's not just that they're 640x480 but that they're also low-quality
    jpeg.
