Can't create PS file - "no desktop printer exists for this spool type"
I can create PDF files from Photoshop, Illustrator or from any eps file by dropping them on to Distiller, but I can't create a ps file. I don't have a postscript printer but I do have a virtual ps printer. In the chooser menu, I can select adobe ps on the left hand side but there are no options to select a postscript printer on the right (OS 9.2). What do I need to do?? I'm working in OS 9.2 and OS X and I can't get it to work in either system. No ps file = no high res PDFs.

Can't create PS file - "no desktop printer exists for this spooltype"
You might want to remove any desktop print spoolers / remove the
'PRinting Preferences' in the System Folder/Preferences/ and then
re-start ....
Do not worry if you cannot see a printer on the right hand side of the
chooser - all you are doing by selecting the driver is to tell the Mac
to use the postscript driver itself ...

Can't create PS file - "no desktop printer exists for this spooltype"
Trudie,
The easiet way to create a pdf from Photoshop or Illustrator is to save
the file to pdf. In OS X you can print to create a pdf file using
Apple's own pdf mechanism (save as pdf in any print dialog box). If you
goto the Adobe PDF printer under OS X, you can goto Output Options
(click on the copy and pages drop down menu): choose save as file, and
the drop down menu has two options (pdf and postscript). The same should
be true from any postscript printer driver under OS X.
Something similar is possible under OS 9 as well, but I am not running
OS 9 for the moment. If you choose either the Apple Laserwriter or the
AdobePS, you should be able to choose print to file and select
postscript as an output option.

Hi Jon
I removed the print preferences folder from the Sytem folder by moving it onto my desktop but I still can print to file from Quark to produce a ps file. Any other ideas??

Mike
Does this create a high resolution (300dpi) print quality PDF from Illustrator?

Trudie,
Vector images in Illustrator as resolution independent. Resolution of
raster images has something to do with the original resolution as well
other settings. If you print to the Acrobat PDF printer instance than
the you can determine the final dpi of raster images by choosing the
appropriate job settings. Most default job settings except Screen will
result in images of AT LEAST 300 dpi.
You can through the SAVE AS dialog box, set compression settings for
raster images as well.
