Default Can't Export To Jpeg Format

    Help!!!!!!!!!!
When I try to export files to jpeg format, a dialog box indicates that "due to insufficient memory it cannot be completed". I work with illustrator 8 on a dinosauer, mac os 8.0 but the same problem occurs on other computers as well.
The same problem occurred on my G4 in the office, when the computer was brand new. With another brand new mac, the same "insufficient memory" dialog box came up.
    What am I doing wrong?????
Even if I try to save to tiff then save to jpeg, upon sending files out I am told that they cannot be opened.
How do I make my existing files smaller? I reduce the resolution from 800 to 300 and even 150 but have the same results.
    Please help.

Obviously your files are too large. This can be caused by a number of things but mostly by having a stray point somewhere on your Artboard outside of your work area. Reduce the size of the Artboard until you can see the whole area. Do a Select-All. Are there any points outside the area of your image? Delete them, them make a No fill/No Stroke box just slightly larger than your image and try again. Also make sure that you have enough space on your Hard Drive (>20%).

And make sure you have enough RAM applied to Illustrator (and available on your system).

Also, what are the dimensions of your files? If you're trying to create poster sized images even in jpeg format they'll be pretty large, and I'm guessing that the process of rasterizing your data would force the working file size to be increased in your application RAM to gigantic proportions (as if you'd converted it to a tiff) before stripping it down to jpeg compression.

    Larry,

Thanks, I'll try that. I 'll cross my fingers. Will advise if it worked.

Also if the restart didn't work, when exporting from AI what jpeg options are you using?

    Try lowering the slider.
