Can't Group or Lock objects

I've just updated from V 9.00 Mac and find this version totally changed. Almost
have to start from scratch.

Currently my biggest problem is grouping, or locking objects. According to the
manual, for what that's worth, I do as always. But when I select objects to
group, the GROUP menu is always grey.

You can bet there's a simple answer... Not covered in the sloppy
documentation. Any suggestions?

How are you selecting? Perhaps you are subselecting with the new FHMX
Subselect Tool. Not all objects that can be subselected can be grouped. For
example:
- You can't group subselected objects that are already part of other groups.
- You can't group locked objects.
- You can't lock only one object within a group.
- You can't send objects to a locked layer and then group them before
deselecting.
