:confused; I am new to Contribute, and I brought to it a set of expectations
based on other content management systems I've been exposed to. I'm not seeing
what I expected, and don't know if it's because I'm missing something -- or
because Contribute is missing something. Either way, please set me straight!.
Specifically, there are things I thought we would be able to do, that I can't
see any way to do, such as restrict a client's access to certain parts of a
page, and specify pages they can access. Unfortunately, we just took over this
particular site, and it's a total mess -- more than half the files on the
server are not even part of the site (but which half?), and some of the files
we would especially want to restrict access to are ASP include files that are
just in the root directory along with most of the other files. But it seems we
can't prepare a set of files in Contributte, restriccting what someone can do
with them, then tell our client, 'you can do certain things with these files,
and only these.' Instead, as I understand it, we have to choose between
allowing our client to edit all files on the site, or all filess in specified
directories -- which means we would need to create a directory and put all
those pages in in, or else move everything we don't want touched out of the
root directory -- changing a whole bunch of links and includes in either case.
And then, we can't restrict what our client can do on a page-by-page basis, but
only specify under their user-role definition what they can or can't do to ALL
files they can access. Am I missing something, or have I got it right? And if
I've got it right, have you got any words of wisdom that will make me feel
better about the situation? Thanks!
