Re: Can't locate Twain_32
You probably need to reinstall the TWAIN driver.
If you were using it in Photoshop 3, then it might only be a 16 bit driver (ancient) and not work with later OSes or versions of Photoshop.

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
Ive worked with Microtek and downloaded most recent scan software and drivers. Also, before I reloaded onto this system the same combination of software had worked on a previous system with the same os (Win98). Microtek has the scanner working on their software, their answer now is that it is a Photoshop problem. I guess I may have to fork out the $39 for teck assistance. By he way, I miss stated, I am running Photoshop 5 not 6.

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
Before you spend the money, are you getting an error message? In reading your post, it looks like you're running Win98, is that right? What version of ScanWizard are you running?
Can you run ScanWizard standalone? Did you re-install Photoshop?
Did you know that some versions of ScanWizard have to be manually removed (you have to locate a TWUNK) before installing a new version?
Are you just trying to get it recognized as a TWAIN_32 instead of a TWAIN_16? If so, why do you care? Is there an issue that TWAIN_16 causes?
Help us with a little more info and you'll probably get good help.
FWIW, if I were a tech support person and didn't know what the problem was, I'd say it was photoshop too. It's not, trust me. But reinstall photoshop anyway.
Peace,
Tony

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
I've got a umax scanner. It used to get screwed up, every now and then, until they finally updated their drivers. Problems with the usb support. Before that HP scsi problems. Reinstalling the drivers didn't always work for me. Here's what I usually had to do:
Uninstall any scanner software from windows control panel.
Go to the device manager (inside control panel/system) and uninstall the scanner driver if it was still listed.
Go to the windows directory and delete the twain, twain_32 and/or twain32 directories After that, if you've got other twain devices you'll have to reinstall those too.
Reboot the system, then follow the instructions for reinstalling the twain driver.
I'm on 2000, I don't remember what twain directories 98 has, but it should be similar.
Hope that helps.

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
That's correct - you should not get TWAIN_16.
So this means that the TWAIN driver is missing or misinstalled.
(their software probably doesn't even use the TWAIN driver)

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
Is this the problem you were having?
Unable to detect TWAIN drivers listed under the SELECT SOURCE sub-menu in applications. <http://support.microtek.com/~admin/cat9.html>
Or
Chris is right, it could be that ScanWiz ties to the scanner through something other than twain. Do you have to install a twain driver separate from ScanWiz?
What model is it? Does it hook up through the parallel port <http://support.microtek.com/~admin/cat3.html>? Or is it USB <http://support.microtek.com/~admin/cat5.html>.

Re: Can't locate Twain_32
What Chris meant was that when you run ScanWizard as a standalone, it doesn't use the Twain driver - like Hamricks VueScan. But from within an application, it *does* use twain. He's basically saying that just because ScanWizard runs as a standalone, doesn't tell us anything since it doesn't use Twain to acquire the scanner.
Now, for the version issue. Before you install Version 2.6, Microtek recommends that you manually remove TWUNK. See this page:
<http://support.microtek.com/~admin/dlinst254.html>
One of the big PITA's with Microtek's consumer model twain software is that removal wasn't easy. So check that page out, and follow the instructions there.
Peace,
Tony
