Default Can't Open ID 2.0.2 Mac into ID 2.0 pc OS XP

I saved a huge assignment on a mac, then to 256 jump drive, then tried to open it at home on my PC in ID. I got the message "Cannot open file "bob". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format or a plug-in that supports a file format may be missing."
I've tried to rename file, tried re-saving as PDF (on PC), tried updating my ID, now what? This is my fist time using either of these programs, and I can't seem to get it to work!
Please help, I already tried all that had been posted prior....

Mac files can be used on PC and vice versa with no problems (when both
versions are patched to 2.0.2, and there are no special plugins installed),
did it yesterday the last time. You have to add a file extension to mac
files (.indd), so that you can choose the file in the file dialogue of the
    windows version.

    Like Jens says, should work.

You sound like you know enough not to be trying to open the wrong fork
of the mac file, so are there any more tips to be given to help us solve
    the problem?

I think my only problem is I don't have access to the mac ID 2.0.2 to save as .idd. (or any mac)
    Thanks for your help

What Jens meant is, you have to add the ID-extension *.indd to the file to
make it accessible via dialogue-box. Of course you can add that
file-extension on your win-PC (i.e. via file-explorer). The file, btw.,
should open in ID without extension if you drag it into.

The important thing is that you have your win-ID patched to 2.02, too.

Are you absolutely sure that both the Mac and the Windows version are
full legal versions and both patched to 2.0.2?

A good test here would be to save a file on the Windows machine and then
try to open it on the Mac.
