Can't open the illustration

Hello there

I have a file problem with Illustrator CS on Windows. I tried to re-open a file and I get the follow error.

* ************ Can't open the illustration. The illustration contains an incomplete or garbled object description.

Offending operator: "Bg"
Context:

Most of the images in different layers are gone. Can anyone tel me what is this? what happen? And is there a fix?

I just got the same message, except that it only contains the phrase "can't open the illustration" and when I click ok, I get a blank page. I can see the files like the are supposed to look in the preview, but again, getthe blank page when I open them up. It has happened on all my files!!! They were fine last time I opened them. What happened?

I'm having the same problem after deleting a bunch of stuff from my HD. Now when I try to open my files I get a "can't open the illustration". When I click ok it opens as a blank page with the same file name. I can see my thumbnails and previews.

When I open a new doc and save it, I can reopen it. I can also place any existing files into a new one (what a pain in the ass).

Also, if I open Illustrator and choose "New", I get an error message that reads "can't import styles from this file".

This is terribly frustrating. I've tried reinstalling just Illustrator, as well as the whole Creative Suite, with no effect on this problem.

Try deleting the AIPrefs file (FAQ topic) or perhaps an over reinstall and see if that doesn't correct things.

I just had my problem fixed! Somehow, when my machine was reconfigured last week to switch from one server to another, some of my security settings were changed. My IT guy just came down and gave me full administrator rights again and my problem is fixed - I can open all my files again.
