"Can't print the illustration

I am using Illustrator 10.0 on Windows XP and now I am getting the "can't print the illustration" error message. I was able to print all these files 7 months ago. I have read lots of posts with people having the same problem at other forums. I am hoping someone can help me here. Thanks!

I should further mention that I am trying to print to an HP DesignJet 500ps. I have installed the latest and greatest driver too.

have also had the same error message when printing documents with a large artboard size to my large format printer. Artboard size was originally 36"x42" - what I had to do was reduce the size of the artwork and artboard to 50%, then in the printer setup box, increase the size to 200%. Output was acceptable. Also uncheck Bitmap Printing and it should print .

I am also getting the "Can't print the Illustration" error. Using Illustrator 10 on Win 2000, printer HP4500N and also on Epson 7600. It prints fine on the Xerox 7700.

My problem now is that I can't find where to "uncheck bitmap printing".

I have checked all menus I can think of, and can't find it.

It is not under any menu. Look toward the bottom of the print dialog.

The feature will be greyed out for Postscript printers.

I am getting " Can't print the illustration" pop up also. I have a hp designjet 100, a designjet 800 printer that it will not send to either. These are on my network, i have looked up and down in everything and cant get it to print. I have a hp photosmart 7350 connected directly to my computer that prints all my files but only at 8.5" x 11" format. I am trying to acces the larger printers for a 24" x 36" or 30"x42" but its been very diffcult. I dont know where to look or what to do now.

If printing with spot colors Illustrator won't print when there are about 35 or more colors in your swatches palette. Try merging colors like all variations of white and variations of black. When you reduce the number of colors in the document it will print. I don't know why but, it just works.

Hi there - I got the same problem today, and found no solution yet.
HOWEVER, I know for sure it's not related to the printer(driver) itself, because even when using some PDFwriter I get the same error.. .I will now try using a smaller artboard, just to give it a try...

Hmm..apparantly that did not make any difference either. Even 1cm x 1cm does not work.
Also the option RGB or CMYK makes no difference...bullocks!

I have been working on this design 3 days, and I need to send it in within 12 hours...
Seems to become another sleepless night :(
