Default Can't reload Acrobat 4.0 after trying trial 6.0 version (WinXP)

I tried the 6.01 trial version of Adobe from the web-site download page and now I cannot re-load 4.0. I need the distiller to create PDF docs from WORD docs. I run the uninstall via the control panes "Add/Remove Programs" option, re-start my laptop and then attempt to install 4.0. It tells me a previous uninstall did not finish.

Someone please help me At Your Earliest Convenience. I have proposals I need to submit that I can't deliver until they are in a read-only format.

    Many Thanks in Advance,

    John
