Default Can't remove spot color swatch

When I select "all unused colors" a Pantone swatch is highlighted but I cannot remove or rename it.

I've removed everything in the file, all text, graphics, master pages but I still can't remove the swatch. What am I missing.

That is a well known bug. Export your document as an InDesign Interchange document (.inx) and open this .inx file. This should save your problem.

Opps! I just tried that and things moved. I'll just have to send the file to the printer as is. When pdf files are made the color is absent at least.

It was a 56 page document. I only noticed (after that I didn't look futher) that on the last I saw a small red box indicated that type had been push into the primoridal soup.

Sure enough on closer look a caption under a photo was missing until I opened the text box slightly.

Since I spotted this one anomaly I don't know if there are others. I couldn't chance it so I just told the printer to ignore the ghost spot color.

FYI: Thinking it may be a problem with cs1 (I mostly work in cs1) I opened the file using cs2, export inx and opened with cs2 and the same thing happened.

One little trick that works is to place in an image such as an eps file with the rogue spot colour in it. Then delete it. You should now be able to delete the spot colour.

You are amazing, and just saved my life - your trick to place an image with the spot color in it and delete it ACTUALLY WORKED! Thank you for freeing my stuck spot color!
