Re: Can't save Fireworks files on OSX - file busy?
I had that problem with FW MX.
The problem on my Mac was Norton SystemWorks - Antivirus.
Although that suite was disabled and for the most part erased from my harddisk, FW had a problem with a leftover "sleeping" extension.
Run Apple System Profiler and check in the Extensions if there is something from Norton or Symantec.
Remove it.
We (including MM) never knew why only FW had that problem.

Re: Can't save Fireworks files on OSX - file busy?
You're a genius! I just turned off the auto scan preference in norton antivirus and fireworks now saves perfectly. Didn't have to delete any extensions.
You probably deleted systemworks or antivirus while the preference was set to autoscan, so even without the app, there was some sort of extension or preference checking files and it didn't like the way fW was doing things. Looks like I can keep antivirus, but just need to keep any background activity off.
Thanks again! Forums rock. I pretty much live over at creativecow.net - I don't think there's any fireworks forums though. Just flash and maybe director.

Re: Can't save Fireworks files on OSX - file busy?
I'm glad it solved your problem.
I had trouble with it for weeks. It started after a system update for no known reason, weeks after I uninstalled the Symantec suite with the un-installer.
It could be the extension (which should have been deleted by the un-installer) was woken up by the system update. Why only FW had the saving problem was and is a mystery.
Thanks for the follow up !

Re: Can't save Fireworks files on OSX - file busy?
Same reason FW has problems with simple things like cutting and pasting text between apps. They're obviously not conforming to normal OSX system protocol in their design. But then, I've had problems like that since I first started making sites with the beta back in 98!

Re: Can't save Fireworks files on OSX - file busy?
I run intro this problem today with Fireworks CS5 on Lion OS. After pulling my hair for a couple of hours (no Norton Antivirus to look for) my husband figured out that it was the iPod that I had plugged to the computer (that was the only thing different from when it was working fine).
In my case Fireworks would create this temporary files (ex: "0000002") every time I would try to save. The files could be removed one at a time, but when trying to erase more than one it would crash the computer.
If this is happing to you, check your hardware as well. Hopes this helpsunregistered Guest
