Are you directly saving to the server. If so, try saving to your hard drive and then copy it to the server.

It's probably a permissions error on the server. Check with your Sys Ad.

I have been struggling with this problem until today.
I re-formatted my computer. -opened Illustrator and it was doing the same darn thing - it wouldn't let me "save" over a file.

A few minutes later I tried it again and now it seems to be fine. Is that weird or what? So I can't exactly say how to fix it, but maybe consider re-formatting your computer.

However, I am still cannot delete any temp files from the server.
    That remains a mystery.

Please don't reformat your computer. It won't fix it :(

There are a few other references about this issue from a LONG time ago if you do a search you may have some luck.

Please post if saving to your local HDD ever gives this error.

I would definitely try to "start over" and wipe your computer clean. It helped me - somehow. Sometimes that does fix things. There is no other answer in this entire forum! Good luck to everyone.

By the way, I was previously running 10 and trying to update to 10.0.3, but my computer would not update. It just sat there "gathering info" for about 3 hours!
I really had no other option but to re-install everything.

When the unable-to-save-or-delete problem used to happen to me on the LAN all it took was a restart of the network server to fix this, not a reformatting of the local hard drives. I can only say this empirically, though, since I don't know the science behind it, and I don't know if this is the same problem or just one with the same symptoms. If possible, have your network administrator restart the affected server and rebuild its desktop. In my situation, that always made it possible to delete the temp files and save AI files.

Incidentally, I don't ever have the problem working at home, where my network is Mac-based, or at my new job (I'm not sure what server software they use here yet). The problem seemed to restricted to networks running Netware, as I recall. Has that been the experience of others?

I am curious why this happens so frequently with Illustrator, and no one seems to have noticed the problem with any other application. I only had it happen with AI files. It seems it's common enough that Adobe would want to look into this to find out what's causing it so they can post a "known conflict" warning with their next release.
