Default Can't type accented chars in OSX and can't use them on Windows

    SOS.

I can't type accented characters (like e grave or e acute in French) on OSX. normally you type option-grave then e to make e grave. It works in MS Word, but not in director, so it's not my Os directly that's the problem.
I'm running OS 10.3 and MX.

Also, pasting text with accents into a Director text or field displays OK on a Mac, with embedded fonts. On transfer to Windows, the accented characters come out incorrectly.

all of this used to work fine in OS9 and Director 7. This is progress?

    Any help gratefully received.
