    Perhaps it isn't an Indesign object. Maybe it was copied and pasted from illustrator in which case the selection outline would be dotted.

    Masking doesn't work the same way in ID as in AI.
    Check the Object,Compound Paths in ID. Do you have a Release there?

    I am just learn this program and thanks for your help. I check and no compound release is present. The links palette seems to be the key. I was expecting to see the objects in the layers palette like AI. The object was created in AI and placed in IDesign. Click on the edit original seems to be the key.
