Default Can't use return key to edit text inside a text box

When I initially type a text in a text box, I can use the return key to create a space between paragraphs. Once I leave the text box I can't go back into the text box an use the return key. When I hit the return key, to edit the text, I get a red x with a red box around it, which tells me I have ran out of room. I have experimented on a blank page. There is plenty of room but it works the same way. I can use the tab key to move the text but that is very time consuming.

I also searched for a half an hour in the forum to find the answer. If the answer is there can you give me some advise as to how to find it there.

Hit command-Alt-i to see the hard returns. This key combo toggles them off
and on, and for troubleshooting this sort of thing it's good to see them.

Try using a paragraph attribute instead of a return...space after and/or
space before. And I recommend using a style to implement the spacing, but
    that won't solve the problem.

Last...are you using the Enter key on the numeric keypad? Don't use that
one, use the other one instead.

Thank you so much. Your last paragraph did the trick. I never thought that the enter key on the ten key pad would effect it. Your other short cut command-alt-i is a great resource for trouble shooting.

I have been struggling with this for 6 months. Thanks so much.

    Glad that worked.

Do yourself a favor and investigate the advantages of using paragraph
spacing and styles. Using a hard return for a paragraph separator is
something for Selectric typewriters, not page layout in 2006. ;-)
