Can't view published changes
Here's the situation: I've got Contribute on my wife's machine and Dreamweaver
8 on mine.
Using Contribute on her computer, I edit a page from our website and publish
it. (She's the Contribute Admin .) The change is immediately visible on my
machine, but doesn't show up on hers until minutes later... no matter what I
do. Refreshing before and after the connection just won't work - even with a
Ctrl-F5 forced reload. If I leave her computer alone for several minutes, the
refreshed information will appear on its own.
I've cleaned out her cache (with both IE and WindowWasher), and also set IE to
ensure that she gets a fresh copy every time she visits a page. Using FileZilla
on her machine, I can download a copy of the updated file and see that it has
our latest changes... but I still can't see an immediate an update in
Contribute, nor in a browser window on her machine.
I've read the two major Adobe KB articles on the display of updated pages, but
so far, none of their suggestions have panned out. Obviously, this is not a
matter of the host's file cache, since I get the changes immediately on my
machine.
What else can I do on my wife's computer to rectify this display problem?
Thanks for any creative suggestions you might have.
Cheers,
Steve Kobb

Re: Can't view published changes
Tricky one Steve. Totally guessing but could this be related to page caching
by your ISP? It might be that your ISP caches page requests for say 10
minutes, which would explain the difference between wife's computer (who has
requested page within last 10 minutes hence sees unchanged one) and yours (who
hasn't requested page within last 10 minutes hence gets served the new one).

Could be some caching setting in your router too???

Re: Can't view published changes
Thanks, Lukaro.
I'm amazed to tell you this, but the problem has simply gone away.
Unreal, but true: I didn't change anything... didn't DO anything. The snag
simply sorted itself out. Now, when a change is made on her machine, the
updated version appears immediately.
Cache issues sure can be vexacious, can't they?
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate the input.

Re: Can't view published changes
I'm not really sure how to use this forum, but I was hoping someone from this
thread could help out. I am attempting to edit our web page using Contribute
3. I have edited and published the corrections, however they are not showing
up on the web page, even though the changes show up in Contribute. What can I
do to get the changes to edit correctly? HELP!!! :confused;

Cleared the cash from your browser and refreshed the page?

Re: Can't view published changes
In your IE browser, you would click on Tools > Internet Options > [General Tab] Delete.
Get rid of all the cached material, then go back to Contribute and see if the situation has improved.

Re: Can't view published changes
That didn't work. And it's weird because when I click "Edit" the changes show
up in Contribute. But when I publich and then open the web page, the changes
are not there. Ugh! This is so frustrating.

Re: Can't view published changes
When you click Publish, do you get any error messages, or when you click
Publish do you get the "Success, page updated" message?
After publishing, once you have cleared the Internet Explorer cache using
Tools > Internet Options > [General Tab] Delete, then click clear history, then
browse to your website page, hold down the control key and click refresh to
force a re-load of the page.
Also, perhaps try another browser like Firefox to see if that makes a
difference.
FYI when you click edit in Contribute, it actually saves a copy of your page
locally on your computer, makes the updates to your local copy, then when you
click Publish it FTPs up this local copy to the server.

Re: Can't view published changes
If the FTP up to the server is interfered with, e.g. by your network firewall, that can cause the update problem.

Re: Can't view published changes
After a successful publish, the correct version shows up when browsing to the
page on another machine. The problem is that I can't get contribute to load the
new edited version to make additional edits. It goes back to the original page.
Any thoughts or recommendations other than try again?

Re: Can't view published changes
What about in Internet Explorer on the machine you have Contribute running?
Try clearing the Internet Explorer cache, clear history etc then do a
Ctrl+Refresh in Internet Explorer. It is likely to be caching, either by
Internet Explorer, or perhaps your network, that is the cause of this issue.
