Canvas size problem - Macromedia Fireworks

When I select a specific canvas size...say 6 inches x 2 inches...and click okay, I am getting a canvas that is much larger than that on my screen. I would say about 4X as large. This is not a problem with the magnification...checked that already. Anyone have a suggestion as to what would cause this?...

Check the resolution you are setting the canvas to.

A monitor can only display 72 or 96 dpi and if you're setting the res to
a higher number then it will be off on the monitor.

Are you designing for the web or print?

What resolution is your canvas set to?

The canvas size in inches in irrelevant. You are working in a screen
based medium where only pixel size matters. You need to set your canvas
size to a proper pixels dimension.

Thank you for your responses. I had overlooked the fact that the resolution was set to 300... I returned it to something a little more tame 72 p/i and that did the trick.
