card swipe in Director kiosk

I have a client that wants a kiosk program for a doctor convention to
operate in the following way:

A doctor walks up and swipes his card in a card swiping machine. (similar to
a ATM machine) to gain access to the program.
The program keeps track of which doctors used the program.

Is there anyway that Director can communicate with a card reader?
