okay, how do I turn it off? I've read the Xcdroast FAQ. It talks
about using the "-a" switch to do with for that utility. But the
man-page, and cdrecord FAQ don't mention how to turn off the ATAPI
    libscg thing.

My ATAPI-CDROM driver is compiled as a module, but I don't know the
name of it -- and can't find it in the module directory under anything
specific enough to tell me I've found it. However, it doesn't look
like that module is currently loaded into memory:
    # lsmod
Module Size Used by Not tainted
    sg 28092 0 (autoclean)
    loop 9624 0 (autoclean)
    ide-scsi 10320 0
    usb-storage 25840 0 (unused)
    scsi_mod 87616 2 [sg ide-scsi usb-storage]
    scanner 11104 0 (unused)
    keybdev 2116 0 (unused)
    input 3488 0 [keybdev]

Any suggestions? Obviously, recompiling the kernel w/o the
ATAPI-CDROM module is an option, but seems a little extreme.

    thanks for the help,

To disable your cd w, as an ATAPI goto /etc/modules.comf and write
options ide-cd ignore='hdc hdd' (Or apropriate devices)
then pass to ther kernel at boot hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi
(by editing the append line in lilo.conf, or the equal in menu.lst)

    Okay added: ide-cd ignore='hdd'
to my /etc/modules.conf. But then I got errors on boot that it's an
    illegal statement.

After looking around google I found some one who suggested putting it
in Lilo as well. So now my lilo append line reads:

    append="hdd=ide-scsi ide-cd ignore=hdd"

but "ide-cd" is a "BAD OPTION"

    What di I miss?
