Centre on selection
Hi
I can't find anything that allows you to centre the screen view on a selected item on the art board. Am I missing something?
Thanks

Re: Centre on selection
AI does not offer this fundamental command. Like a fool there is only a limited number of individual views (View > New view). That's why John Wundes decided to write an excellent script:

Re: Centre on selection
Hi Kurt
I must be doing something wrong. When I hit download I get a new window with heaps of "script" stuff in it. I don't understand how to install it to the scripts folder. Can you please help with some instructions?
Thanks

Re: Centre on selection
Right-click the link, select 'Save target as…'
Or copy the code, open a text editor, paste the code. Save it as xyz.js
Move this file to the script folder and the next time you start AI, the script is persistently available (File > Scripts).

Re: Centre on selection
Or the simple way, of course, is to just use the zoom tool and center the curser on where you wish the view center to be and click, this will zoom in one click on that area centered. If your zoom out with that click it'll also center there.

Re: Centre on selection
Sorry, Bob, but it cannot be called the simple way, it is another thing that does not do what is requested: A basic command that zooms and centers the screen to the current selection. No doubt, something that should have been integrated to an application that is used to be called the industry standard a long time ago.

Re: Centre on selection
Guys,
Yes, there is no "simple" way of selecting an item, and then instantly zooming in on it. This is one of the few things that the "other" programs in this genre seem to have that Illi doesn't, but if you have an object that you always seem to be zooming in on, then you can go to View-> New View, and then what ever you are viewing at the time will be "quickly" accessable by setting up a couple of custom views. This is particularly handy when working on large projects with "trouble" zones that clients seem nit picky about.
Jon
PS. Sorry for all the quote marks ;).
PSS. Bob, I have never heard you like that. What gives? I respect you like no other for your props in here. Illi is a hard program to learn, that is why it is for professionals, remember :).
