CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
I've been trying endlessly for the past 12 hours to get CF MX7 installed and
configured correctly on Apache 2.0.54 server.. my problems are listed in
order...
1. Upon installation completion I get the following (Non_Fatal) error:
Web Server Connector Configuration Error
Status: ERROR
Additional Notes: ERROR - JNDI port 2920 for server
coldfusion is not active
Everything else shows as successful.
When I began the install process.. I manually created the install directory
for CFUSIONMX7 and set the sahring permissions for both that folder and my
"C:\" drive as suggested in one of the techtips...
the "ColdFusionMX7 Application Server" will ONLY successfully start uppon
rebooting my computer. If I try to restart the service at any point after
system boot.. it fails to connect and returns the following error in the JRUN
log:
# Created by JRun on 10/02 06:33:25
10/02 06:33:21 warning No sessionSecret has been specified in jrun.xml.

10/02 07:17:25 user FlashGateway: destroy
10/02 07:17:25 user CFInternalServlet: destroy
Now, this happens after I stop the service intially then try to restart it...
Next.. I try to run the Apache_connector.bat file to configure apache
(apparently it wasn't auto configured during initial installaion of CF MX7..
and all directories were correct), I get the following error message returned:
C:\Documents and Settings\Chris Heinlein>C:\CFusionMX7\bin\connectors\Apache_
nector.bat
WARNING! This will install the ColdFusion MX Apache Connector.
Press Control+C to abort.
Press any key to continue . . .
Could not connect to any JRun/ColdFusion servers on host localhost.
Possible causes:
o Server not running
-Start Macromedia JRun4 or ColdFusion MX server
o Server running
-JNDI listen port in jndi.properties blocked by TCP/IP filtering or firewal
on server
-host restriction in security.properties blocking communication with server
I even get this message when I restart my pc (CF MX7 Application Server IS
"Started" at this time) so I still cannot config my server...
I edited the security.properties so that nothig would be blocked but still no
success.
My apache server IS running correctly, ColdFusion isn't.. and I know my
problem has something to do with the CF install/config...
Here are my system specs:
Intel Celeron 2.4Ghz
768 MB RAM
Windows XP Home SP 2 (Windows Firewall DISABLED permanently)
Norton AntiVirus 2003 (disabled during install, launch and every time I did
anything with cold fusion)
Kerio Personal Firewall (also disabled at all times of install, config, etc)
all other unneeded programs and processes were also disabled
Apache HTTP server (currently is 2.0.50, but have also tried 2.0.54)
I am trying to install the CF MX7 developer edition and have verified the MD5
sum on the downloaded file
I've also tried installing CF MX6 but have the same exact problem
I am honestly stuck at this point and have read every tech tip and install
tip.. have tried everything suggested, from macromedia.com as well as other
personal sites with support info for installing and configuring coldfusion... I
just can't seem to get it working on my computer.
I know there are probably other things that I haven't included in this post,
but I am sure I have tried EVERYTHING mentioned on just about every website I
could find docs for CF MX7.. and still nothing..
I even went to the extent of installing IIS 5.0 on my xp home (by cheating
from win2k cd) but still no luck
Someone please help.
(Please disregard anything I may have said that could be percieved as rude or
demanding, it's just that I'm at wits end with this "easy to use... impossible
to install" software...
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me.

Re: CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
I don't know that I can help, but ...
1) Did you run a netstat -an to see if the port 2920 is open/listening?
2) Does this directory exist: cf_root/runtime/lib/wsconfig/ ... and if yes,
what files/subdirectories does it contain?
3) Does this file exist cf_root/runtime/lib/wsconfig/wsconfig.log ... and if
yes, what are the contents?

Re: CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
Sounds like the "WebServer Configuration Tool" isn't able to run to completion,
fortunately there is a manual way to configure the "Connector" between the
WebServer (Apache2) and the AppServer (CFMX7), it's documented here,

Re: CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
If certain ports aren't working, it won't matter if you configure it manually
or not.
Additional Notes: ERROR - JNDI port 2920 for server coldfusion is not active
This is an important error message. It won't find the running server if this
port is blocked.
Do a:
telnet localhost 2920
telnet localhost 51011
see if they come back blocked. 51011 is a stretch to be blocked by another
app the firewall is off. (it's such a weird port)
2920 might be since it's used by products like Heroix or by some other
program.

Re: CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
well... once I got home after spending another several hours working on this..
I finally got it installed and working.
What it ended up being was my firewall. I'm not sure how or why, but even when
I disabled (and completely exited) the firewall.. I still couldn't connect.
Next step, I manually configured the firewall to open every port in range of
the ones needed for coldfusion, and did have a some success after that but not
completely... the jrun.exe had to make several attempts before finally
connecting, and even it after CF was running, jrun.exe was still using 97% of
my cpu resources, so I knew it wasn't the answer I was looking for... Finally,
I uninstalled my firewall and wala.. started/ran smooth as a charm.
So I comletely wiped apache/CF from my system for the last time... reinstalled
and I was good to go...
I then reinstalled my firewall and gave CF/jrun/etc. all the permissions
needed and once again the firewall shut her down, so I figure that there has to
be a conflict in the software itself possibly. Guess it's time to install a new
firewall just to be sure.. well, thanks for the reply's and sorry for the time
wasted on this...
On another note...
" Additional Notes: ERROR - JNDI port 2920 for server coldfusion is not active"
I looked this error up on the macromedia website and the suggested "fix" for
this was:
Solution
To solve the problem do one of the following:
* Give Everyone read permissions by right clicking on the drive letter in
Windows explorer and selecting Properties > Security. Then, select Everyone and
check the Read cheackbox.
* Create the CFusionMX7 installation directory and give Everyone read
permissions as above.

In regards to the other questions.. I precisely followed every step.. all
ports on netstat were as they should be, I mean everything was as it should
have been. I'm still lost as to why my firewall was still blocking even after
being disabled... exited... manually configured... disabled... exited.... etc,
but that's what it was

Re: CF MX7 install seemingly impossible
i have the EXACT same issues that you are decribing .. however I do not have a
firewall of any kind. I have the windows firewall disabled. I am trying to
install on a FRESH install of windows 2003 server with SP1.
my error log is identical to the one you posted to begin with. I never had
any issues with 6.1 on other servers .. but it has been days that I have been
trying to get CF 7.01 to install without success.
