cfcontent to deliver files - Macromedia ColdFusion

Just curious some of the insight and bg of others here more experienced than myself in using cfcontent as your primary method to deliver files etc. It seems to me that in conjoining cfoutput with cfheader I can programmatically remove all client side visible hard links to files that are intuitive for the end user to gain. question is is anyone using this method currently and what are some of the pitfalls you've encountered as well as some of the stopgaps you maybe had to fill. Default cfcontent to deliver files

Just curious some of the insight and bg of others here more experienced than
myself in using cfcontent as your primary method to deliver files etc. It seems
to me that in conjoining cfoutput with cfheader I can programmatically remove
all client side visible hard links to files that are intuitive for the end user
    to gain.

question is is anyone using this method currently and what are some of the
pitfalls you've encountered as well as some of the stopgaps you maybe had to
fill. For the most part it seems I'll be doing pdf, zip, some image files and
some more obscure file extensions. I have noted the SSL/IE pdf lag flaw so far
and was wondering also if anyone would care to give some commentary on that.

    thanks!

Default Re: cfcontent to deliver files

I use cfcontent and cfheader to deliver most files back to the client. My file
store is beneath the webroot and otherwise not accessible to users. By creating
a CFM template that serves the files back to the browser using cfcontent and
cfheader, we have more control over the access to the files. On big potential
gotcha is the fact that this will try up a CF thread while it's processing. For
example, if you have several users downloading huge files, ColdFusion will be
tied up serving files and not processing new requests. If all of your files are
pretty small, than this might not be a worry, but it's definitely something to
think about. Don't want to DoS yourself!
