    Which version of CF?

    < 6.0: recommended, but not essentail (given you're only reading).
    >= 6.0: no.

    But, Adam, I am always stumbled on this one...see, I am not actually reading it, I am just checking to see if a session name exists. So I am guessing it is not needed in any version of cf?

    I guess it has to do with the fact that it may not exist AS you check with
    isDefined(), but may it be created DURING your check despite you getting
    'false' as a result of said check? Thats kind of the way I have always
    thought of it - but still, the implications in most situations are not
    really worth the concern. And, as of 6.0 up, it just isn't required.

    Like you, I would like to see this explained better too.
