CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Hi, I've recently upgraded from ColdFusion 6.1 to CFMX 7. Setup: MS
Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 Running IIS5 After I completed the
installation, everything worked fine, I was able to browse/develop sites
located on my wwwrooot as well as gain access the CF Administration screen to
configure datasources etc... Now, after rebooting my machine, it appears
that ColdFusion will not start properly. I have checked my IIS 5 settings and
it states that my web server is running I have checked my Jrun admin interface,
and it is running. I cannot however access the ColdFusion administration
screen any more, nor can I browse any of my local ColdFusion websites. I have
confirmed that I can view pages written in asp, so I know that my webserver is
running. it a problem with the ColdFusion pages. I have already uninstalled
IIS and ColdFusion. Once re-installed, everything works fine again. Until I
reboot, at which time the same problem irises. Here's some info from the log
files: C:\CFusionMX7\runtime\lib\wsconfig\1\LogFiles\jrun 050314.log

I think you may need to start jrun which can be done by running the following
script drive:\cfusionmx7\bin\cfstart.bat or you can try drive:\

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Hi again, In order to continue to get my work done, I have uninstalled /
re-installed ColdFusion MX7 again. This time I have selected 'use built-in
web server'. This option has worked, and I have been able to reboot and have
not experienced any problems. I do need to reconfigure my sites / datasources
to work under the ColdFusion wwwroot folder....which is a bit of a hassel. But
at least it works! It still does not solve the issue with rendering cfm pages
in IIS. I don't have enough time (right now) to troubleshoot the issue with
IIS, but I thoought I'd let you know the 'built in web server' option works for
now. As it stands, this is still an outstanding issue, feel free to comment if
you happen to know what's wrong with the IIS / ColdFusion MX7 configuration.
Thanks, CP

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
You should run the web service configuration tool (wsconfig) and reconfigure
your IIS server. It sounds like that was the problem the first time.
You may also have firewalls or network software that prevents the IIS
connector from talking to JRun/CFMX.

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
I'm having exactly the same problem, same version of W2K, etc. There are no
firewalls and no network software that could be causing this, and installing
the standalone and eliminating all of our IIS websites is not an option.
Basically, all was running okay when I first installed (which took hours), then
this morning I noted ftp services had shut down, went ahead and re-booted and
now the entire server's crashed. This server has multiple drives on it for
these large sites, and moving them all over to run under the CF webroot is not
an option. At this point, I'm considering just uninstalling and then
re-installing 6.1, and letting everybody know to wait for the first service
patch before trying to upgrade on a W2K server.

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Angela,
Your problem does not relate to dev_dude's, as he was having problem with
his IIS configuration, not problems with CF starting up.
So to summarize: It was working, you rebooted, and now its not working.
What changed on your system. Why did your FTP services shut down? Could
that change be related to ColdFusion failing? What are the error messages
in the log files?

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
I think there is a similarity because, like dev_dude, I finally managed to
install cfmx7 without errors and then rebooted, and then everything failed.
Prior errors on installation had included the server simply not serving up cfm
pages (prompting for a save when I tried to open administrator), and the
installation log included mention of port 2920 not being available to jnmp (I
hope that's right) when I installed. Finally, after uninstalling and
reinstalling several times, I was able to install without errors, log into
Administrator, and then go home. Then this morning I tried to open Homesite
and realized ftp was down. I've no idea why -- nothing had changed. When I
went to the server and tried to open IIS manager, I got prompted to save a
file. I decided to re-boot to see if that would solve that problem, and when I
came back up Cold Fusion was no where to be found -- not listed in services,
not even listed in 'add/remove programs'. Nothing, and I was getting a 'server
not found' error when I tried to bring up my sites, even though IIS was
running. Since this latest error, I've been trying to reinstall both CFMX7 and
then MX 6.1, and neither will run. I'm afraid to install as a standalone
server since the installation screen prompts me that this would be 'for
development purposes only'. Huh? My network admin suggested that perhaps
there was a conflict with the antivirus software? We're running Sophos.
Help!

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Hi Tom, Thanks for your reply, I tried the wsconfig.exe tool (see my previous
message) '(yes, I have tried using the wsconfig.exe tool, but this didn't make
a difference.)' I even completely removed the IIS association, and them
re-enstated the IIS association. Still, no difference. This most important
thing to note is: After installing CFMX7, everything works. The problem is
AFTER REBOOTING. After rebooting, the ability to render ColdFusion pages
stops. So, technically, if I never rebooted my machine, I would be able to
continue as per usual. But unfortuntely, that is just not the case. This
makes me wonder if it has someting to do with a service 'starting up'. Now,
this may be an IIS / Jrun / ColdFusion service. But I can't tell for sure.
All I can isolate is what I've posted in the logs. Even of it is an IIS issue,
ColdFusion 6.1 did not have this problem. So it still (in a way) has to do
with how CFMX7 interacts with my computer. I feel for the other developers
who have the same issue. It's quite frustratiing, but hopefullyy we'll find a
solution. best, CP

In case your next comeback is that Port 2920 might be closed or being used, I
just ran a netstat and checked IP security/filtering settings and 2920 is, to
my eye at least, wide open and ready for usage. Hang on, I just reinstalled
again and it appears to be succesful. At least, I was able to log into CF

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Angela,
Those installation error are only relating to the web server connector. I
would suggest installing with the built in web server and verifying that it
works OK. Then you can run wsconfig to configure IIS to talk to your known
working CFMX installation.
There are many tech notes available on the support site on how to configure
the connectors. It is very hard to do via the forums.

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
I recommend installing ColdFusion with the built in web server turned on,
verify that you can reboot your system, then proceeding to configure IIS.
If you cannot start ColdFusion after a reboot, then you need to start
looking at your log files and perhaps take advantage of the free
installation support.

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
I think I'll just let it run until I need to reboot, and then see how that
goes...at the moment, we really need to use the intranet and the production
server (busy time of year). Hopefully, I won't need to reboot for a while!

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
We are having a similar problem. After installing CF 7 server developers
edition on a Windows XP home SP2 computer using the build-in web server install
it works fine. However, once the computer is restarted, the CF server will not
start. I have tried migrating from 6.1 and even tried unstalling 6.1 and
installing CF7 clean.
The error code I get in the event log is "Code 2". I have found that this
could be the case due to using "server" or "comp" as data source names, but
this does not apply with us.
Looking forward to some constructive input. Thanks.

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
Tom, Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, now even my 'developer'
vesion has stopped functioning correctly, the pages cannot be rendered I have
already been looking through my log files and posted what I know (at the
beginning of this thread). I also have a partner who works with me here, who
is on the exact same configuration, and her CFMX7 pages do not render. She's
experienced the exact same symptoms that I have described in all of my posts.
I've gone to the Macromedia Free support, but didn't find anything relating to
this topic, am I missing something? It looks like I'm going to have to
re-install version CFMX 6.1 again (deadlines, deadlines, deadlines). Which is
too bad, since I was really enjoying some of the new features of CFMX7. It's
now very obvious though that there is some kind of a 'connector' issue between
CFMX and IIS 5. And yes, I've reconfigured the wsconfig.exe, this doesn't do
anything to fix this problem. Unfortunately, it's a problem that I don't have
a week of log file sifting to get fixed (at this moment). CP :(

Re: CFMX7 fails to startup after rebooting
I should note that we had an unscheduled reboot last night and, sure enough,
there was no CF running on the server once it came back up. This also had the
effect of disabling all websites completely -- just a 500 error where there
used to be a production site and an intranet. And in services, nothing CFMX is
related. In all likelihood, if I were to try to run that little website
configuring tool, I'd get the same message I got last time -- that jrun
couldn't be found on localhost. Did I menion I'm not running anything on
'localhost'? So I'm uninstalling and reinstalling, and praying it works.
Once again -- IIS5 SP4 -- exactly the same version of IIS on which I very
successfully beta and alpha and pre-released tested CFMX with no problems
(reboots included). The only difference between the two servers is that I'm
running multiple urls on this one and not on the other.
