Change in Way of Saving DCS2 in CS vs PS7

We have just noticed that Photoshop CS have change the way to save as
DCS2.0 in Multiple file

In PS7 the name are like this:

Image.eps
Image.K
Image.C
Image.M
Image.Y
Image.5
Image.6
etc, etc

In PSCS the name are like this:

Image.eps
Image.K
Image.C
Image.M
Image.Y
Image5
Image6
etc, etc

Noticed how PSCS skip the . for the spot color 5th plate and 6th plate
etc...

Is this a bug? Could someone give me a reasons for changing what have
been use for many years before? Could you imagine the mess when
exchanging file from PSCS to PS7 with a client..
