Changing Colors in Illustrator CS2 - Adobe Illustrator Windows

Just got CS2 installed. I've done a tremendous amount of work in previous versions and am dismayed how all my CMYK colors seem to have a life of their own. I change something to 100% black, then go back after a minute and the black's become a combination of various percentages of C, M, Y, and K, resulting in a pseudo-black. I'll set something to 80% cyan and 20% black, and it later becomes 76.9% cyan and 20% black. My color setting before, in CS, was "US Prepress" and the closest available og in CS2 is "North American Prepress." But ...

My color setting before, in CS, was "US Prepress" and the closest available og in CS2 is "North American Prepress." But why would that matter? My file should stay the same; only the way it prints and displays would be changed by the prepress color settings.

    Anyone know what's going on?

    Thanks,

    Chris

Is this a CMYK doent? (File>Doent Color Mode)?

    Yes.

I do all my files in CMYK, and I generally use rounded numbers for the percentages for each of the elements of a drawing. I'd rather te 80%C-20%M-35%Y-40%B, than 83.76%C-18.67%M-34.98%Y-32.05%B. A lot less typing (if I'm not eyedropping that is).

I've opened a lot of doents I created in CS with the even-number percentages of each of the CMYK components and found that the numbers are all different in CS2.

I don't use RGB or Pantone (well, Pantone once in a blue moon).

Here's the really stupid thing. Once I've gone in to a CS2 doent and changed the CMYK percentages to even numbers, I'll go back a few minutes later and the numbers are different.

Maybe I'm going crazy, but I've used Illustrator since Version 9 and the only thing I've had problems with is color settings, so I can jive with InDesign in appearance on the screen and on paper.

    Never this number-changing problem.

    Thanks.

    Christopher,

If you saved your colour settings from CS into a Colour settings file (.CSF)
from CS's Edit>Colour Settings>Save you could load that colour management
    profile into CS2
