It means the text is in a scaled container. The two numbers represent the set size and the scaled size.

There's an option on the Control palette menu (I forget the exact name off the top of my head) that lets you assign the frame scaling to the contained text to eliminate this double display of size.

The option is accessed through the flyout menu of the Control palette or the Transform palette. It's called "Scale Text Attributes."

The "double size" is caused when you group a Text frame with other objects and then scale them. If you don't group the objects before scaling, you don't get this.

    Sorry...

It's great to learn this. I checked the size of my box and Indesign does tell me that the box is 109% in the X and the Y, so that makes sense and explains the character paletter question i raised, but when I type in 100%, which i hoped would take it back to a 100% (no increased sizing/scaling) it reduces the text box again (by 9% ?) and puts 109% back in the size field.

    Grrrr...

Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong/or how to solve this, hope I've explained myself.

Yes. You didn't follow the instructions that Tom and I provided. Changing the scale of the container in a situation like this ripples through to the contents. You have to use Scale Text Attributes to get the text to take on the scaling of its frame.

What I want is NO SCALING anywhere (sorry to shout).

So, i just hit 'scale text attributes' in the control menu flyout to rid myself of any scaling whilst the box is selected, I presume Dave?

Right. If you do that, you'll get the frame and the text in synch, and then you can apply 100% to the frame.
