Default characters dropping out when sent to RIP

    Mac OSX CS2

HELP! I think I'm having trouble with the CID fonts. When making a pdf and printing out on paper through InDesignCS2, everything looks fine. When sent to RIP for outputting film, one paragraph has all the "b"s missing. Another may have the "j"s missing. When run it though flighcheck in Acrobat, the font comes up as "missing CID font". This has only happened since upgradeing to CS2.

I've tried a test page changing all fonts to the"pro" versions and this seems to fix the imediate problem. In house is fine. But how do I deal with this problem when a client sends us a "good" pdf and it doesn't print correctly.

Do I have to Upgrade our RIP? ($$$$$$$$$$)

    thanks,

Possibly. Have you checked with the RIP manufacturer?

We upgraded last year and are trying to avoid upgradeing again as long as possible. Any other answers to the CID font problem?

    thx,

    Graffiti is spot-on ...

The only workaround is to have a fully CID compliant RIP ...

If you "upgraded" last year, I'm surprised that you still don't have CID font support. This has been part of the PostScript spec for maybe 12 years and has been available from all the RIP manufacturers for some time (as far as I know).

Actually, "missing CID font" is interesting. What is the exact
    message?

    preflight though Acrobat 7 pro:

type 2 CID font: CidToGidMap invalid or missing > RTFDokumentCond-Med
    12.0 pt embedded CMYK.....

then what page its on, and repeated for everytime it is in the document.

Am I mistaken that this is not the problem? It says imbedded, but missing. If I change type to a "pro" version this message is gone.
