I don't really follow, personally, but it sounds like you want to do
something like:
<input type="checkbox" disabled="true">
Either that, or use radio buttons.

Re: checkbox update
you can't have a CLICK event do ANYTHING in ASP. You will have to have the
event post the form back to the server
