Checkerboard pattern in vector graphics FH 10
Hi,
Hope someone can help. I have a Mac G4 with OS 10.3.3 at home. I have used
Nova 750,000 vector graphics and printed them from Freehand 10 on an HP with no
problems. I recently purchased Hemera Big Box of Art 800,000 graphics and the
vector (eps) graphics are all printing with a checkerboard like pattern. I
called Hemera and they said I should talk to Macromedia. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Mary

Re: Checkerboard pattern in vector graphics FH 10
Mary,
You don't mention exactly what kind of HP printer you have, but I suspect
it's a non-PostScript inkjet. If so, this might be the problem:
-- When you import the Nova EPS clip art into FreeHand, FH converts it to
native FH objects which can then be rendered accurately to a non-PS printer.
-- BBOA, at least on my PC version, stores its art in various formats and
then, when you want to use a particular image, walks you through exporting
it in a format appropriate to the application in which it's going to be
used. I suspect that something is happening in the export step that's either
converting it to a non-EPS format OR that the EPS format being produced is
one which FH can't parse into native objects, so your non-PS printer is
printing a preview image instead.
I'm a little baffled by the checkerboard thing since that part of the image
(simply indicating the "background" showing through the image's surrounding
transparency) shouldn't be exported in *any* format. When you bring the BBOA
image into FH10, do you see the checkerboard on screen, or only on printout?
