Checkin - templates checking out files problem

Ask a Question related to Dreamweaver AppDev, Design and Development.

  1. #1

Default Checkin - templates checking out files problem

Using the Checkin feature, I found a problem with templates.

If I make a change to templates and then save the template, it will update all
the files using the templates. It tells you it needs to check them out first,
    , which it does.

    2 questions

    1. What if someone already has one of the files checked out?

    2. When all the files are updated, they are all set to checked out. Is there
a way to quickly tell DW to Check in all the files that were checked out by the
template update or that that user has checked out?

The problem is that when you make a template change, it would potentially
update 40 or 50 files in different folders. Would be a pain to have to go by
hand to check all the files back in.

    Thanks,

    Tom

You would have to have them checked in first before making your changes. In

Unfortunately not, but you could perhaps use the File | Select Recently
Modified option in the expanded Site menu.

    Where is that?

I can't seem to find it under the file or site menu.

Sorry - it's under the EDIT menu in the expanded site panel (the one that
    shows local and remote files).

First question. In this forum, how are you getting the old message to show in
the reply box ? I am only getting a blank box.

2nd. That was it (under the edit menu). Actually, the option I would use
would be "Select Checked out Files". It selects all the files you have checked
out (not all the files checked out by everyone) and then you can do check in.

Another way I found: in the same screen sort the "Checked Out By" column (all
the files checked in and out will be together), do a shift select on all your
files, and check them in. You can do this by either going to the site menu or
right-click on one of the selected file and choose "check in". Easy.

    Both work great.

    Thanks,

    Tom

I am using the NNTP forums. You are using the webforums. That's the
    difference.

Try a newsreader - I use OutlookExpress - and create a new news account with

That would work too, as would your other solution - which is one I used to
    do all the time....

That was it. I went to the group direct as I was putting my messages in the
SBC News Server under Macromedia.Dreamweaver, but the messages I put in the
Macromedia site werent showing in the SBC News Server and vice versa.

Just did that and it works.

The following that I mentioned before as working is only partially correct:

"2nd. That was it (under the edit menu). Actually, the option I would use
would be "Select Checked out Files". It selects all the files you have
    checked
out (not all the files checked out by everyone) and then you can do check

Actually, won't work by using "Select Checked out Files" and then selecting
Checkin from the Site menu. When you drop the menu down, the files that
were selected will show as not selected (at least, they won't be dark blue -
they will have a border around them, however). You have to right click one
of the files that are selected and select checkin from that menu. The other
acts as if it is working, but it apparently doesn't find any files selected.

Tell them which one? The one I like already works.

Besides I haven't had much luck with their wishlists. I am still waiting
for them to address the templates issue I told them about a long time ago
    (before MX2004).

You can't mix templates between html and aspx files and asp file.

I was trying to set up nested templates that would let me set up one
template to handle my html and aspx files. I was forced to set up identical
templates for html and aspx, except for the page directive in the aspx file.

Any change I made to the html file had to be made to the aspx file and vice
versa. I tried to set up a nested file where the master was an html file.

It doesn't touch any of the aspx lines between the top of the document and
the <html> tag, except for the page directed at the top of the page. It
removed it from all the aspx files.

If I set the master as an aspx file it added it to all the HTML files.

This didn't make any sense. They can tell not to remove the aspx lines, why
do they remove the Page directive. The extension (.aspx) should tell them
    not to remove it.

I even sent the 3 files that demonstrated the problem.

After I sent the files, I got no more responses. I spent hours trying track
and demonstate the problem. It seemed like a pretty simple fix. They were
already doing it for other aspx lines.
