    Default Chinese language

I would like to have our website translated into Chinese and Vietnamese. A
translator sent some samples for me to experiment with on Microsoft Word. I
tried to copy and paste it onto a webpage in Contribute 3 in Edit mode. Only
question marks appeared. Can anyone explain to me what I need to do to paste
Chinese and Vietnamese languages onto our website?

Contribute won't display chinese characters unless you use the proper character
    set tag in your header.

First make sure your page has this in its header:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Big5">

Then try inserting the chinese text.

Hi, was just reading your reply about the Chinese text. Does that appy to
Japanese text as well? I copied and pasted some text and the same thing, lots
of question marks. I tried to set the encoding to UT8-code but when I pull it
up all the options are clear meaning I can't chose any of them??? Do you have
    any advice for this problem?:confused;chickmtber@yahoo.co.jp

You may be able to use UTF-8 for japanese text, but I'm not su because I have
never really used japanese text in anything. My suggestion to you is to go take
a look at a few japanese web sites, look into their source code and see what
    charset they are using.

Also, the charset must be in place FIRST before you add any of your characters
in, otherwise Contribute will show question marks.

First your pages need to have the traditional chinese charset MET tag in their
    source code:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Big5" />

now you should be able to type chinese characters, or paste in a word doc
containing chinese text and everything should be fine.

Thank you for the advice about the META tag...but I am new with Contribute.
Can you tell me where I am supposed to enter this? What do I click on to get
    there? <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Big5" />

Next, I copied Big5 from a Word document my translator sent; and the Chinese
characters looked fine on my page when Contribute was in EDIT mode. Then, I
clicked Publish and got the message that it was published successfully. Then
Contribute automatically goes back to browser mode and displays the page I just
edited....but it was ??? and squares! It looks great in EDIT mode....but not
    from a browser.

I then e-mailed a friend in Taiwan and asked him to look at my web page from
his computer, thinking maybe my local computer couldn't read Chinese...but my
friends in Taiwan also see the ???? and squares...not the beautiful Chinese
that I see on the edit page.

    Any ideas????

Could you get the source of the page and post it here?

Maybe seeing the HTML may help.

That doesn't make any sense. What browser are you using to view the chinese text? Also if you can show a URL that would be great.
