    Default Cleaning Scanner Glass?

Yesterday I noticed my scanner glass was clouded on the inside. I opened it up and used a little Windex and a paper towel, but that just left paper-towel fuzz on the glass. Anyone know of a good product to clean scanner glass?

You need something lint free. Best bet would be to visit a camera store
and get a lens cleaning kit.

BTW, I hope that scanner is no longer under warranty, because as of now,
    it is anyway.

It's three years old. No longer under warranty. Besides, I lost the receipts and box and all that other good stuff when I moved.

Try Pec Pads and some anhydrous methanol (the anhydrous methanol is sold
as Eclipse Cleaning Fluid - but at a vastly increased price over the
price at your local pharmacy). If you are in the States, the Pec Pads
    can be ordered from

    or in the UK from

I use 90% Isopropyl Alcohol; it's a great solvent. If you choose to use ANY anhydrous product such as anhydrous methanol as Carol recommends, handle it carefully as it is still hydroscopic and you can really only keep it open for very, very short periods of time before it becomes contaminated with water, which may leave a residue.

The water residue, by the way is easy to buff out with a lense cloth, this is just a cautionary note since it's nice to have anhydrous, but leaving the cap open kind of defeats the purpose. <shrug>

    Anhydrous is ammonia, correct?

I have some lens cloths at home. Don't know why I didn't think of them in the first place! I guess another solution is to move my computer to a room that isn't subjected to such weather extremes.

I guess I'm really low tech. I use wadded up newspaper and a mix of distilled water with a drop or two of Photoflo and a dash of isopropyl (<5%). Works for me.

Ink on the paper comes off, newspaper can scratch the glass; but hey, if it works...

Your best bet is to buy Glass cleaner for use in Graphic Arts (Printing). YOU DO NOT WANT A CLEANER WITH AMMONIA!! Spray lightly into a cleaning pad then wipe the scannner glass. Take a separate pad and then buff dry the glass. An excellent cleaning pad is to buy "Handy Wipes". They're lint free.
