clipping mask problem - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I have a rounded rectangle with a fill of white and a stroke of 3.33pt I need a clipping mask only in the white fill area of the rectangle, thus leaving the stroke untouched and creating a border for whatever goes into the mask. I can't duplicate the rectangle and make a clipping mask out of it because anything I use in the mask overlaps the stroke of my border. I don't know how to go about making the mask the right size for what I need to accomplish. Please help....

    Chris,

    You may:

    1. Copy the rectangle in the same place (Ctrl+C + Ctrl+F),
    2. Remove the fill from the copy (you may hide or lock the copy stroke),
    3. Apply the clipping mask between the original and the copy stroke.

    That works! Thank you!
Now I can stop banging my head against the wall!
And to change the color of the border I had to change the stroke of the clipping mask (took me a minute to figure that out)
