Clipping Mask Question
Hi All
I have a file with probably hundreds of layers. I want to create a clipping mask to make the file into a shape. After applying the clipping mask alot of the layers seem to be thrown into caos, ie some moving in front of others.
I have tried flattening the file first but as its so huge it says the filter cant perfrom the task as I am out of ram (I only have 512meg).
Can someone suggest a work around for this. AI10.
Thanks
Latchet

Latchet,
Have you tried increasing Windows virtual memory?

Re: Clipping Mask Question
Hi
Haron - thanks for the reply - yes I have tried increasing the virtual memory and still get the out of memory error.
Anyone - Is there a way to get the scissors or knife tool to cut to a specified path, rather than using the clipping mask tool to clip the shape I want?
Thanks
Latchet

Re: Clipping Mask Question
Well... you could try the pathfinder crop function, but that's going to wreak havoc on your layers and any stroked paths.
You might consider consolidating your hundreds of layers to try and get your clipping mask to work.

Re: Clipping Mask Question
Latchet,
Select contents of a layer (Alt-click on layer), then drag the little colored square from source to destination layer in the layers palette. Delete the source layer. Work top to bottom.
Alternately, you can cut then paste-in-front. (Make sure 'Paste Remembers Layers' is unchecked.)
If it makes sense, you can group the contents of the source layer before moving it.

Re: Clipping Mask Question
Latchet,
how about collecting all the layers on one single layer and then applying the Mask to the layer?
