CMYK Printer - InDesign print output composite RGB - Adobe Indesign Windows

Hi I have a large format Epson Stylus Pro 7600 printer which print using CMYK inks. When I print to it from InDesign (2.0.2) I can only select composite RGB or grayscale. Finding this quite annoying, it is not a postscript printer so is this the problem? Is there any way I can get it to print CMYK? or should I just not worry about it? Many thanks...

There is a discussion about this somewhere in the forum (can't fid it right now). It boils down to this: that's the way it works. You send as RGB -- even if you have a CMYK printer -- and the printer converts it to CMYK.

You'll only get CMYK as a choice with postscript printers. Despite the
color of the inks, that's an RGB device.

And before Dov steps in <g>, you might want to check to see if there's a
software RIP available for that printer. My guess is that there is, and
that would give you postscript compatibility for that printer and would
    allow you to print CMYK.

    Thanks Bob

I'll look into the Rip software

The software RIP will translate your CMYK PostScript into RGB and send that to what is obviously an RGB printer in terms of what it actually accepts from the outside (believe it or not!).

Of course, but it does a much better job than just sending the CMYK and
allowing the native print driver to do the translation.

I still wish Adobe hadn't killed PressReady. I'm still using it with my
1520 and the prints are great.
